9 Years of antiMusic: Bass Legend Billy Sheehan
Day in Rock reports: It was nine years ago this month that our sister site Rocknworld.com was launched. So to celebrate 9 years of antiMusic we'll be looking back at some of our most popular articles since the beginning. Today we look at one of Morley's most popular interviews. Here is an excerpt with Morley's conversation with bass legend Billy Sheehan.

Morley: You were a legend early on in the industry because of your extraordinary bass lines. At what point in your development did you decide to not take a back seat to guitarists and make the bass more of a lead instrument than a rhythmic one? And was there an influence (player) that drove you in this direction? ** Billy: At no point did I consciously try to take the spotlight or "lead" role. In a way it just happened. I was and still am always into the band as a unit---a lot of interplay, improv, and listening to what the others are doing. I interpreted things differently for sure, but I love working WITH other players the most. That's my favorite thing. Lots of bass players in the early days played a LOT of notes & were often the most melodically active instrument in the band. Most Motown stuff had Jamie Jamerson's wild bass all over it. McCartney's bass on "A little Help From My Friends" is all over the place. The concept of bass player as root note holder for the entire song is relatively new, I think.

If the reports from Metal Sludge are correct, Adler will be sharing screen time with Coolio, Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Nicole Eggert, Lorenzo Lamas, porn star Kobe Tai and "an as-yet-unidentified seventh member."[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Sum 41 Set Release
PR reports: Taking their multi-platinum [removed genre term that made this statement an oxymoron and doesn't fit their sound. Please mentally replace with proper description for band's sound] to a new level, Island recording group and perennial road warriors Sum 41 have completed their fourth full-length album, Underclass Hero, and set July 24th as the release date. The new album is self-produced (for the first time) by the band's own Deryck Whibley. Sum 41's new album will be introduced with its first single and title track, “Underclass Hero.” The song will impact Modern Rock Radio on May 15th. In addition, Sum 41 will release the song “March Of The Dogs” online April 17th, so fans can get an early taste of the new release. That song will be available for purchase at all digital retailers. According to Whibley, “I wanted to make an album that meant something important from beginning to end. I wanted it to have relevance and significance. It's not a concept album. It's not about fictional characters in a made-up story but there is a constant idea that runs through the record. It's a deeply personal statement that reflects the confusion and frustration in modern society.”- Click Here for the Full Story

New Static-X Temp
Blabbermouth reports: STATIC-X frontman Wayne Static has issued the following update from the road:

"I want to thank everyone who's been coming out to the shows to support us. Almost every show has been sold out so far and we're having a lot of fun out here as usual. Nick [Oshiro, drums] has stayed on tour with us despite his broken hand so he can participate in band appearances and signings. [Fill-in drummer] Will Hunt [TOMMY LEE, DARK NEW DAY, SKRAPE, STUCK MOJO] has done a great job hitting the drums for the past ten days, but he has prior commitments with DARK NEW DAY and VINCE NEIL, so Orlando was his last show. Next up on the drums is Bevan Davies. He's played with JERRY CANTRELL, DANZIG, and COMES WITH THE FALL, and will stay out with us for the next few weeks until Nick has fully recovered. RIP CDs? Wal-Mart May Think So
Idolator.com reports: The Dangerfieldian profile of the brick-and-mortar music business is getting bigger, as Wal-Mart--the No. 1 music retailer in the US, as far as units sold--has decided to cut CD shelf space in about 500 of its stores next month, according to Kings Of A&R. Wal-Mart is planning to use the freed-up space to stock iPod accessories, because to consumers, a pink leather carrying case that's going to get scuffed and ripped in two weeks is worth a lot more than a silly song or two or thousand.[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Romance Leads to My Chemical Romance Leave of Absence
punkbands reports: So Mikey Way from My Chemical Romance got married. Because of this, he's taking some time from touring to presumably consummate the marriage over and over again. Here's how his brother Gerard put it on the My Chem website...

I'm very proud to announce my brother's recent marriage. Watching him grow up into a man and finding love makes me the happiest brother alive. In light of this joyous event, the band has decided to give he and his wife a much needed break from the road to start a life and have a proper honeymoon and do all of the things a newlywed couple should do.

I know this is upsetting news, as it is for us, but we will continue to tour with a temporary replacement until he has situated himself in his new life.- Click Here for the Full Story

Russell Simmons, The New Tipper Gore
SMN reports: In the wake of radio host Don Imus‘ firing over racially insensitive comments about the Rutgers women’s basketball team, many activists in the black community have turned their attention to rap’s misogynistic lyrics and begun to question what steps the music industry should take to police itself.

Now, Russell Simmons and Dr. Benjamin Chavis, on behalf of the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network, have issued a recommendation that the recording and broadcast industries voluntarily censor the “misogynistic” words “bitch and “ho” and the “racially offensive” word “nigger” from future recordings.

“We recommend the formation of a music industry Coalition on Broadcast Standards, consisting of leading executives from music, radio and television industries,” the HHSAN statement continues. “The Coalition would recommend guidelines for lyrical and visual standards within the industries.[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Juan Ratt Issues Statement Againt Reunion
PR reports: Ratt's Juan Croucier issued an open letter via his Myspace page about the summer reunion of Ratt that he is not involved with. Here is what he had to say: It is with deep regret that I must inform you that there will not be a full reunion of the surviving Ratt members. Considering the original band broke up fifteen years ago and there have been several questionable incarnations of it since then, my hope was maybe this time we could give the Ratt fans what they have wanted all along; the original band. I made an exceptional and painstaking effort to work things out with the others, only to reach an impasse.

There has not been a sincere attempt at redemption by my former band mates, for their insidious and sometimes malicious wrongdoings in the past, toward me. Even when they withdrew critical conditions to help facilitate a long-term reunion, I continued to hope, trying to stay focused on a positive outcome for everyone, especially the fans. I told them, in no uncertain terms, that if we could reach a point of reasonable compromise, in good faith, I would return to the band. To my dismay, near the end of negotiations, ulterior motives prevailed and I was eventually simply stonewalled. Therefore, since nothing has changed, I am left no other choice but to abstain from a reunion.[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story
