Lovedrug Supporting Sparta and Straylight Run (With Edward Scissorhands inspired music?]
PR reports: Lovedrug has snagged the sole support slot on the Sparta/Straylight Run national tour, kicking off May 28 in Tempe, Ariz. This comes immediately after a handful of headlining dates following their extensive tour with the Plain White T's, supporting their acclaimed LP, EVERYTHING STARTS WHERE IT ENDS (The Militia Group).

[Interesting side note. We received this email from a reader last week: "I was talking to some of the guys from the fairly popular indie rock band Lovedrug and they mentioned that their album is based on the Tim Burton movie Edward Scissorhands and that their music fits up to the movie perfectly. Here is the kicker though...it matches up best when the cd/ipod is on shuffle. They mentioned that you can even better the experience by
turning on repeat so it plays for the whole movie. That's how perfect it is." We haven't tried it out but sounds pretty cool -see full story for tour dates] - Click Here for the Full Story

Ex-Translator Steve Barton Sets Release
PR reports: You have heard Steve Barton on Translator’s huge hit “Everywhere That I’m Not.” The veteran San Francisco alt-rock outfit recorded four albums on 415/Columbia, and toured with R.E.M., Gang of Four and David Bowie. And Translator lives on to this day, soon to announce new recordings, rarities and reissues. However, in Barton’s other, more day-to-day life, he’s the vocalist/songwriter/guitarist in Steve Barton & the Oblivion Click, whose new album, Flicker of Time, will hit the streets on June 12. The album is on the Sleepless label, distributed through Redeye Distribution.

The new album, Flicker of Time, presents a more varied musical palette, the result of Barton’s band of two years — Oblivion Click — road-testing the material before they hit the studio. The band contains Casey Dolan, guitar; Derrick Anderson, bass; and Robbie Rist, drums. (As an inevitable footnote, Rist is known to many as Oliver in “The Brady Bunch” television series and has accrued many Google-able TV, film and indie music credits since then.) Bassist Anderson contributed a photograph to the album’s surreal cover graphic.[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Charlie Daniels Band Jam on DVD
PR reports: On May 1, Eagle Eye Media will release Volunteer Jam, the 1976 two-hour+ feature film taking the viewer back to ‘75 for one of the greatest of the Charlie Daniels Band’s greatest Jams. Filmed at the band’s annual Tennessee homecoming, this 30-year tradition has consistently infused a country honky-tonk appeal with a jolt of rockin’ electricity. From the swizzle-stick of Daniels’ fiddle, from which he mixes the melting genres, to the guest artists who blend their oversized personalities down to achieve a puree of thick Southern greasiness, these Jams bring out the best. And this one, ’75-style, might be the granddaddy Jam of all.

The CDB—singer/songwriter/guitarist/fiddler Daniels, guitarist Tom Crain, organist Taz DiGregorio, bassist Charlie Hayward and drummers Fred Edwards/Don Murray—was riding high in ’75. “South’s Gonna Do It (Again)” and “Long Haired Country Boy” were ubiquitous, catching the souls of Northern teens as well as wanna-be cowboys all over America. Pre-dating the fashion-conscious Urban Cowboy craze by five years, the CDB was showing America how cool country could be, especially when booted in the behind by some straight-out rock’n’roll.[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Sgt. Hetfield's Motorbreath Pub Band
PR reports: Although the Beatles certainly had some 'heavy' moments ("Helter Skelter," "Revolution" or "I Want You (She's So Heavy)," anyone?), they are certainly not considered a metal band. And on the other side of the coin, Metallica is not considered a pop band. But then along comes Beatallica, and the lines between both acts have been erased - as heard throughout their first official, 'Sgt. Hetfield's Motorbreath Pub Band'. Comprised of members Jaymz Lennfield (vocals, guitar), Grg Hammettson (guitar), Kliff McBurtney (bass), and Ringo Larz (drums), Beatallica has been converting naysayers into believers for years by this point - having made fans throughout the world, and also with such renowned headbangers as Dream Theater's Mike Portnoy and Anthrax's Scott Ian.

Originally coming to the attention of Headbangers everywhere with their initial Internet phenomenon story, the quartet has signed on with Oglio Records, to release 'Sgt. Hetfield's Motorbreath Pub Band' on July 10th. [see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story
