Toca
is Coming |
PR reports: Fueled by six main members and
a genre-bending sound that spans rap, jazz, punk, reggae, pop and rock,
LA’s own TOCA strives to bring the focus of the music industry back to
artistic creativity and expression. Their self-titled debut drops May 29
on Two-Tone Elephants Music and features Busdriver, Pigeon John, 2 Mex
and Aceyalone among others.
“This album really has a piece of everybody
in the band,” says songwriter and vocalist Danny “Xinxo” Rodriguez. “There
wasn’t one particular person who made it all happen. It was all of us.”
Joining Xinxo in TOCA are Ceschi Ramos (the band’s musical mastermind),
David Ramos (drummer, vocalist), Tommy Valencia (vocalist, multi-instrumentalist),
Danny Levin (horns) and Max Heath (piano). “The niche of the band is that
we constantly switch up genres and styles from song to song,” Valencia
explains. “We kind of just do what we want. It’s an anything goes type
of mentality.” [see full story to Check out the first single’s video: Liar

Between
the Trees |
PR reports: Rock, pop… dare we say, emo? It
doesn’t really matter what label you try to stick on Orlando based indie
act Between the Trees. Their debut album The Story and The Song is undeniably
strong. Ask the 2,300+ fans that crammed into the Hard Rock for the band’s
record breaking iTunes release show. Or the 26,000+ friends on MySpace.
Or the 7,000+ people who have already picked up this incredible CD. They
can tell you about good music.
The hook from the opening track “The Forward”
is enough to draw you in. Maybe it’s the pulsating piano and soaring vocals
on “White Lines & Red Lights” that catches your ear. It sure has caught
the attention of music programmers as advance spins are already coming
in throughout Florida, San Diego and Chicago.
National Release: April 24th, Available
now on iTunes. Check out the single at the full story link.-

PR reports: Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson,
friends with benefits -- and TMZ has the shots to prove it!
The two have yet to admit that they're
dating, with Pete denying it numerous times, saying it'd only happen in
a "different universe." Apparently, worlds have collided!
Despite the efforts of several large security
guards, Ash and the Fall Out Boy bassist were snapped while liplocked in
a Vegas VIP booth last night, bringing the different universe to Earth's
front door, which is surprisingly located at JET Nightclub in the Mirage
hotel. Someone notify JPL![see full story for more - sorry couldn't resist

Germs
Drummer Speaks Out about Hemp Bust |
PR reports: Bronner family, makers of the
popular organic Dr. Bronner's Magic Soaps are shocked and disturbed by
musician Don Bolles' April 4th arrest for felony drug possession after
police alleged an 8oz bottle of peppermint Dr. Bronner's Magic Soap tested
positive for the illicit drug GHB (Gamma Hydroxy Butyrate). The notion
that anyone would put GHB in a rinse-off liquid soap product is beyond
belief, and the police field test used must have been flawed or tampered
with. GHB, which produces euphoria and is an alleged aphrodisiac when ingested,
of course has absolutely no effect in a soap product that is rinsed off
the hands and body.
Mr. Bolles, drummer of the legendary punk
band The Germs, was arrested following a police traffic stop and spent
three and half days in various jails in Orange County before being released
early Easter morning. During a consented search of Mr. Bolles vintage 1968
A-108 van, Newport Beach police found a bottle of peppermint Dr. Bronner's
soap which is made with organic coconut, olive, hemp, peppermint and jojoba
oils. Felony drug possession could mean 20 years in prison if convicted.
A pretrial hearing is scheduled for Friday, April 13, 2007 at the Harbor
Justice Center, 4601 Jamboree Road Newport Beach, CA at 8:30am.
"I've used only Dr. Bronner's soap for
35 years," says Mr. Bolles. "I use it for everything - bathing, washing
my hair, washing my clothes - it goes everywhere I go. I'm scheduled to
go to Europe to tour with The Germs this summer, but these felony charges
could keep me from traveling out of the country. This whole thing could
be really devastating to a 50 year old guy just trying to make a living.
I told the officer 'its soap, it smells like peppermint soap,' but he seemed
intent on arresting me."[see full story for more]- Click

Slip One Past Their Fans |

known for his groundbreaking video work in the metal world (SEPULTURA,
SLIPKNOT, MEGADETH, MUDVAYNE, CRADLE OF FILTH, SYSTEM OF A DOWN) recently
told E.S. Day of Abort Magazine that the members of SLIPKNOT have many

All in all, I'll Sleep When
You're Dead is more than a worthy sophomore effort from the king of
indie-hop, El-P. Hopefully it'll be quite a long time before we pass on
and put the rapper to sleep though, because another few records would be
very much appreciated. (4 stars)

Joey Wright describes his music
as bluegrass and jazz. With instruments like the guitar, banjo, and mandolin
the music on his latest 12 song CD of mostly original music 'Jalopy' definitely
takes on the bluegrass flavour that at times resembles Ricky Skaggs.

Ever After is the third
disc from this female-fronted four piece from New Jersey. They've drawn
comparisons to bands like Audioslave and Godsmack, although the only thing
they obviously have in common is the aesthetic of modern hard rock band,
flirting a little with a metal. (3 stars)
