Spooky
June |
PR reports: On June 26, electronic music pioneers
Spooky (aka Charlie May and Duncan Forbes) return with their third studio
album, the double-disc masterpiece Open. Featuring the lush vocals of Julie
Daske and the amazing Celestine Gordon – Open is a perfectly produced one-two
punch of electronic soul and chill-out music released just in time for
the summer.
On a historical level, Spooky are one of
the most famous and important production outfits of the mid-1990's electronic
music scene. Much like other top acts from the golden era - including Orbital
and Underworld - Spooky always created music that went beyond a 4/4 simple
beat and landed in a realm of beautiful song structures and soundscapes.

Slayer
Not for Dummies |
PR reports: [we reported on this a few weeks
ago but here is an official press release from the Slayer camp about it.]
In a 1992 Slayer profile, Esquire magazine wrote, "Five out of five kids
who kill love Slayer." Times change. According to a report just last month
in the UK's national daily newspaper The Independent, a study reveals that
"death metal and thrash bands such as Slayer and Slipknot produce the music
of choice for today's brightest youngsters."
The report is based on an online survey
conducted with students at Great Britain's National Academy for Gifted
and Talented Youth, representing the top five percent of the country's
students. The report further states that "this intellectual elite often
[finds] themselves facing situations and issues not encountered by less
able students." Researchers associated with the study admitted their surprise
that "intelligent" genres traditionally associated with the precociously
bright, such as classical and jazz, were the least popular.
For all the honor students in Australia
and here in North America, Slayer kicks off their first Australian concert
tour in five years on April 21, and will co-headline a North American summer
tour with Marilyn Manson beginning July 25.- Click

Hardcore nowadays isn't what
it used to be. This is not the case Comeback Kid. There is no doubt where
their allegiance lies. CBK is hardcore through and through. What remained
to be seen was if they could turn out a solid hardcore album. The answer
is a little yes, but mostly no. (3 stars)
