Bassist Sues MTV/Venue Over
Beating
Blabbermouth reports: Former HANOI ROCKS
and current JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS bassist Sam Yaffa (real name
Sami Takamaki) has filed an $85 million lawsuit against Roseland Ballroom,
MTV Corp. and others, saying his hands and career were hurt when ballroom
bouncers jumped him while he was fending off a purse snatcher, according
to the Associated Press.
Takamaki, 40, says in court papers that
he was at an MTV-sponsored Iggy Pop concert at Roseland on Aug. 7, 2003,
when a man tried to snatch his girlfriend's purse. Court papers identified
the man as Ian Mackee, a 39-year-old electrician from Brooklyn.
Takamaki and girlfriend Karmen Guy were
in the front row balcony of the West 52nd Street ballroom when Mackee attacked
them, hitting them in their faces and bodies and grabbing Guy's purse,
all while the concert was going on, court papers say.
...When bouncers arrived to break up the
fight, court papers say, they thought Takamaki was the "bad guy," said
the guitarist's lawyer Stuart R. Shaw, "and they beat the living daylights
out of him." [see the full story link for all the details] -

Scott Weiland (ex-STONE TEMPLE PILOTS) has issued the following update:
I feel that I can no longer be a part

Although I greatly appreciate the respect
our album has been given in review, it has become increasingly clear that
in "respect" to me, the word journalism' is blurred with tabloid sensationalism
and untruths. I will not stoop to the level of these mosquitoes in order
to simply sell records. I won't play your f***ing game. [see full story

Cannes Thunderstruck
BW&BK reports: According to Australia's
Entertainment News, distributors of the Australian film Thunderstruck have
had to put on extra screenings to cope with overseas interest at the Cannes
Film Festival (which runs until May 23rd) and the film has good chances
of being picked up by overseas buyers.
Thunderstruck is a film about five mates
who make a pact at the Sydney concert of AC/DC's Australian tour in 1991.
They agreed that the first of them to die will have their ashes scattered
in the grave next to their idol - Bon Scott. The film will be screened
three times during the two-week festival and Clark is hoping to capitalise
on AC/DC's international popularity to secure buyers. -

RIAA Stole Gold Record Idea?
tinfoil reports: In an ironic twist, it
seems the idea for the gold record belonged to RCA Victor...but was STOLEN
by the RIAA!
In 1941, RCA Victor released "Chattanooga
Choo Choo" by Glenn Miller. The record, famous from a movie the song had
been heard in, quickly sold over a million copies. In a bid to continue
strong sales, RCA came up with a publicity stunt: Paint a record gold and
award it to Glenn Miller, which they did on April 10, 1942 during a radio
broadcast.
About a decade later, the RIAA (Recording
Association of America) took the idea AND trademarked it! They awarded
their first official gold record in 1958 to Perry Como...and have been
awarding artists in this manner ever since. - Click
