Rap-Beatles?
MTV reports: Electronic producer Danger Mouse has plans to create The Grey Album, a mash-up record that combines the vocals from Jay-Z's recently released The Black Album with new beats crafted from samples of the Beatles' classic The White Album. Danger Mouse is calling this an "art project/experiment" and does not have official plans to distribute the work in stores when it is completed in February.- Click Here for the Full Story

Linkin Park The Cartoon
MTV reports: Linkin Park were fitted for costumes in late December and plan to finish their new video this month. The band refused to reveal any more details about the clip, including what song it will be for. In fact, the fourth 'Meteora' single is being kept so tightly under wraps that not even the band's management or publicist knew the title as of Wednesday. 

"It's heavy on the animation," rapper Mike Shinoda revealed recently. "And when we say animation, we're not meaning CGI [computer-generated imagery]. This is the real deal, hand-drawn animation. So it's gonna be pretty cool. I mean, that could mean anything from, like, Thomas the Choo Choo Train to 'Akira.' So you can imagine Linkin Park rolling around with some Care Bears. Kelly O as Veruca S?
Loudplanet.com reports: Kelly Osbourne is rumoured to be taking the part of Veruca Salt in the Tim Burton directed remake of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which will star Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka. Filming is due to start this year with a 2005 release date. - Click Here for the Full Story

The Hives Rejected
RIFTrock reports: The website Indie Workshop reports that The Hives have finished their new album and submitted it to their new label, Universal Records. The only downside is, the label has rejected the band's final product. 

Now The Hives are being sent back into the studio to record more "singles" for their next album. The new CD will be the follow-up to Veni Vidi Vicious, which included hit "singles" such as Main Offender and Hate To Say I Told You So. - Click Here for the Full Story

New Soilwork Basher
BW&BK reports: SOILWORK have posted the following message on their official web site regarding the replacement for drummer Richard Evensand (now in CHIMAIRA): 

"Hello there soilers! As you might have heard already Richard Evensand is no longer playing with Soilwork. Richard is an amazing drummer and we are very happy that we have had the privilege to play with him for the period of time that we did. Richard and Soilwork have decided not to continue playing together and we have parted as good friends. We wish him all the best of luck with his future projects. We are happy to inform you guys that Dirk Verbeuren from SCARVE will be filling in as a session drummer for our upcoming headlining tour in Europe. The Living End of CDs
Aversion reports: Anyone who needs proof that downloading has become a fact of life of the music industry read on: The Living End will release its next album for legitimate download six weeks before it hits stores. 

The band's new album, Modern ARTillery will hit stores March 2 from Reprise/Warner Bros., though pay-per-download sites such as iTunes will feature the album Jan. 20. Fear Factory Complete
Blabbermouth reports: FEAR FACTORY's latest CD, "Archetype", was mastered on Tuesday (January 6) at Masterdisk in New York City with Howie Weinberg. An April 20 release through Liquid 8 Records (parent company of D3 Entertainment) is expected. 

"Archetype" was recorded at Rumbo Recorders in Los Angeles with engineer Ken Marshall (SKINNY PUPPY) and was mixed in Vancouver with Greg Reely (MACHINE HEAD, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, DEVILDRIVER). 

"When you look up the definition of the word 'archetype,' it's the actual model from which everything else is copied," vocalist Burton C. Bell stated in the band's new official biography. "FEAR FACTORY is that in my opinion, and 'Archetype' is a defining moment for us. Listen to this record, and you'll know exactly where all these other bands came from." 

Regarding the band's brief split in early 2002 before reforming with a new lineup minus founding guitarist Dino Cazares, Bell said, "Say your car is making an annoying sound you know it will eventually break down, and you've got to fix it. This machine was experiencing the same type of malfunction. One part was not working properly with the rest of the machine. Because of that, the machine ran down and needed repair. I left the band so that change would happen and because of my actions, it happened for the better. We look at our time apart as FEAR FACTORY closing down temporarily for renovations. Morrissey Quarry
Aversion reports: Morrissey fans got one step closer to the end of the singer's seven-year creative draught, as the singer released the album title for his next album. 

You Are the Quarry will hit stores in spring from Attak/Sanctuary Records. The singer rejoined producer Jerry Finn for the sessions, started last year. 

Song titles include "I Have Forgiven Jesus," "How Can Anybody Possibly Know How I Feel?" and "Come Back To Camden." - Click Here for the Full Story 

Sony iTunes
Reuters reports: Consumer electronics maker Sony Corp. said on Wednesday it would launch an online music service in the United States this year, offering some 500,000 songs for downloading at about $1 per tune. 

The Japanese firm, one of the world's biggest makers of home audio and video devices, also unveiled a wireless video screen and a high capacity version of its Mini Disc format capable of recording up to 45 hours of music on a new one-gigabyte disc. 

Sony said its "Connect" online music service would at first only work with Sony portable devices. It would set prices that are standard for rivals such as Apple Computer's iTunes and Roxio Inc.'s Napster of 99 cents per downloaded song and entire albums for $9.99. - Click Here for the Full Story 

Elvis Tribute
AP reports: Filmmaker Ken Vrana will mark the 69th anniversary of Elvis Presley's birth Thursday by working on his own "Tribute." 

Vrana has traveled 250,000 miles over the past 3 1/2 years to collect 570 interviews for a documentary about Presley, who died at his Graceland home in Memphis, Tenn., on Aug. 16, 1977. 

As fans mark Presley's birthday, Vrana will be editing his footage. 

"Officially, we've completed the interviews," Vrana says. "Unofficially, I still have a wish list of about a dozen `big' people like Paul McCartney I'll continue to chase, to insert later if I can get them." 

He plans to release "Tribute" as an 11-hour DVD box set, with a companion coffee-table book. It's not a profit-making venture: Vrana has spent $280,000 on the project so far and says any proceeds will go to charity. - Click Here for the Full Story 

Blame Korea
AP reports: The Bush administration on Thursday accused South Korea of failing to halt the piracy of American movies and music that it said was costing U.S. companies millions of dollars in lost revenue. 

The administration announced that South Korea was being added to a priority list of countries that are subject to special monitoring and consultations aimed at making sure the foreign government acts to address the copyright piracy issues that have been uncovered. 

If South Korea fails to comply the United States would have the ability to bring a case before the World Trade Organization. If the WTO ruled in America's favor, the Bush administration would have the power to impose economic sanctions on South Korea equal to the lost revenue from the copyright piracy. - Click Here for the Full Story 

Ozzy Cancels
Ananova reports: Ozzy Osbourne has told of his deep disappointment as he officially cancelled a number of UK shows in the wake of his quad bike crash. 

The singer almost died following the accident last month, which left him with fractured ribs and vertebra. 

He will need to spend the next few months concentrating on his recovery, but he has vowed to return to the stage as soon as he's ready. 

Announcing the cancellation of his 20-date tour, Osbourne said: "I am deeply disappointed, but it's out of my control. Right now I need to concentrate on my recovery and unfortunately this is something I cannot rush.

Japanese Brides
Blabbermouth reports: BRIDES OF DESTRUCTION guitarist Tracii Guns (L.A. GUNS) has revealed in an online posting that the group's debut album, "Here Come The Brides", has sold 12,000 copies in its first week of release in Japan (where it came out through Universal Records on December 25). "That is about what the last L.A. GUNS record sold in the whole of a years time in the U.S.," he writes. "Pretty cool, huh???? I AM STOKED!!" 

As previously reported, "Here Come The Brides" will receive a U.S. release on March 9 through Sanctuary Records via bassist Nikki Sixx's (MÖTLEY CRÜE) company 12-11 Productions. Mad World U.S.A.
Ananova reports: Gary Jules and Michael Andrews' version of Mad World is to be released in the US following its success in Britain. 

The chart-topping cover of Tears For Fears' 1983 hit is already receiving plays on commercial free stations in Los Angeles, New York, San Diego and Baltimore. 

Now the track, which is the theme music from the cult 2001 film Donnie Darko, will be officially released as a US single. 

Jules is also in talks with US-based labels for a re-release of his independently released album Trading Snakeoil For Wolftickets. He also plans to tour the US following his European tour this spring.
