Super Bowl Breast Staged
AP reports: Janet Jackson apologized Monday for an incident in which one of her breasts was bared for a moment as she sang with Justin Timberlake during the Super Bowl halftime show Sunday night. 

In a statement released Monday night, Jackson said it was a last-minute stunt that went awry. 

"The decision to have a costume reveal at the end of my halftime show performance was made after final rehearsals. MTV was completely unaware of it," Jackson said. "It was not my intention that it go as far as it did. I apologize to anyone offended — including the audience, MTV, CBS and the NFL." 

Jackson's performance with Timberlake sparked a federal investigation and set new standards for raunch in an entertainment industry that seems to be setting new highs — or lows — every day. - Click Here for the Full Story

MTV reports: Even when adopting the most drastic measures, record labels seem helpless to prevent albums from surfacing online before their release dates. So now one label is taking the "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" approach. Four months before the debut album by New York trio the Secret Machines hits stores, Reprise Records, a Warner Bros. subsidiary, is making it available for sale online. In a campaign tied to Reprise's online marketing campaign, the label is trying to make sure fans have a legal way of acquiring new music they hear about on the Internet.- Click Here for the Full Story

Love Diaries
MTV reports: Courtney Love, who once laid bare the diary entries of her late husband, Kurt Cobain, now proposes to publish her own. 

The former Hole singer, in the hope that readers will have the same desire to peek into her private life as they did 

Cobain's, is shopping around a book about her life and loves. Like Cobain's "Journals," which debuted at #1 on The New York Times best-seller list for hardcover nonfiction in November 2002, the book will be an emotional biography in scrapbook form. 

But Love's literary agent, David Vigliano, who also brokered the "Journals" deal, said that while comparisons between the two books are inevitable, Love's project "couldn't be more unlike Kurt's." 

"The book features Courtney's legendary writings that have been whispered and wondered about for years," Vigliano said, "but that no one has ever seen. They're like the literary equivalent of Bob Dylan's Bootleg Series."- Click Here for the Full Story

Avenged Reshoot
The PRP reports: Avenged Sevenfold have scrapped the recently filmed video for their track "Unholy Confessions" and are planning to re-shoot it. The official word is as follows:

 "As most of you can tell by now there is definitely something wrong with the video for Unholy Confessions. We shot it over a month ago and just like most creative things, sometimes it turns out good and sometimes it turns out not so good. In this case we were not happy enough with the video to release it. For any of you that are disappointed, trust us we are 100 times more disappointed then you are. So we have decided to re-shoot the video for Unholy Confessions, this time there will be no concept, just a solid live performance and a lot of Avenged Sevenfold fans."- Click Here for the Full Story

Clapton Goes To Source
Chart Attack reports: Rock legend Eric Clapton will be paying homage to the artist that undoubtedly is his biggest inspiration. 

"It is a remarkable thing to have been driven and influenced all my life by the work of one man… I am talking, of course, about the work of Robert Johnson," Clapton said in a statement.

Ryan Adams Update
NME reports: RYAN ADAMS will have surgery this week on his damaged wrist.

The singer’s world tour has been pulled following the incident in Liverpool (January 22) when he fell from the stage during a show at the Royal Court.

Misfits Mishap?
Blabbermouth reports: The following item came to us from a BLABBERMOUTH.NET reader in Chihuahua, Mexico: 

"I just wanted to inform you that a local radio station here where I live (Chihuahua City, in Chihuahua, Mexico) announced the postponement of the MISFITS concert for [Sunday], Feb 1st due to an altercation the MISFITS (Jerry / Dez / Marky lineup) had with some 'fans' in Mexico City [Saturday, January 31]. 

"I have no more information for you except that the altercation seemed so severe that Jerry Only was vomiting blood and had to be transferred back to the U.S. (they didn't say where exactly).

Solo Maiden
BW&BK reports: Amidst IRON MAIDEN’s Dance Of Death world tour, frontman BRUCE DICKINSON has been secretly putting together material for the anxiously-awaited full-length followup to his highly-praised Chemical Wedding release (from 1998). Dickinson and guitarist/producer Roy Z have been working on a number of songs including a track that was meant for the much-hyped THREE TREMORS project (which also featured JUDAS PRIEST frontman ROB HALFORD and QUEENSRYCHE singer Geoff Tate). Jive Clive
Reuters reports: BMG, the world's fifth largest record company, on Monday said it named Clive Davis to head its North American music operations, returning one of the most powerful executives to the upper strata of the industry. 

The 70-year-old Davis, credited with signing Janis Joplin, Whitney Houston and Alicia Keys to the various labels, will assume responsibility for the company's four labels: Arista, RCA, Jive and J Records. 

The promotion comes more than three years after BMG management, which is owned by Bertelsmann AG, unceremoniously asked Davis to relinquish control of Arista, the label he founded in 1975. 

Davis previously ran the BMG's RCA Music Group, which consisted of RCA and J Records, a label he founded after he left Arista. BMG's combined operations boast a catalog that includes Elvis Presley, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. - Click Here for the Full Story 

Retro Simon 
Billboard reports: An album Paul Simon recorded in 1965 that has never seen the light of day in America will get its first official release here this spring. 

"The Paul Simon Songbook," previously only available as an import and long out-of-print even in that form, is due March 23 via Columbia/Legacy. 

The original 12-track album was recorded in the wake of the lukewarm response afforded Simon & Garfunkel's 1964 debut, "Wednesday Morning 3 A.M." Simon moved to London, building an audience while honing his material at coffeehouse performances. Entering the studio in June 1965 with producers Stanley West and Reginald Warburton, he offered solo acoustic takes on such future staples as "I Am a Rock," "April Come She Will" and "The Sounds of Silence." - Click Here for the Full Story 

Drab Four
Billboard reports: Sting, Dave Matthews, Vince Gill and the Neptunes' Pharrell Williams have signed on for a Grammy tribute to the 40th anniversary of the Beatles' first U.S. television appearance on "The Ed Sullivan Show." 

They join Prince, Beyonce Knowles and Black Eyed Peas with Justin Timberlake as newly confirmed performers for the Grammys, to be held Feb. 8 in Los Angeles. - Click Here for the Full Story

Equal Time for LP

We printed a not so stellar review of Linkin Park in yesterday's Day In Rock under the heading "Linkin Park Sucks". In the interest of equal time, we are reprinting a rebuttal sent in by one of their fans where we discover that the review printed was wrong because that review obviously missed the fact that Chester is "so hot" simply because that reviewer was "jelos"[sic] of LP's "mad money". 

-From chestersgurl1698: OMG like you so suck. You are just jelos cuz Linkin Park is so hot. They put on the best concert ever. Chester is so hot. You are just jelos and I don't see you making all that mad money or making hit songs. So shut up you jelos loser. 

Response: You are right, we are all just jealous haters that wish we were as hot and rich as Chester. It has nothing to do with the music. Thank you for setting us straight.

-This one comes from HSoul and was posted in the Fan Speak on Day in Rock.com: I find it very odd that the overwhelming majority of Linkin Park's concert reviews have been praising the band, yet you pick one of the few bad reviews regarding them. It's especially hilarious when it's from some unknown journalist who wants to give the appearence he knows how to critique music....oh well, whatever gives Keavin Wiggins the best title for the Day In Rock, right? albeit unimaginative.....

Response: What can I say? I put about as much imagination into that headline as LP did into writing "new" music for the follow-ups to "Hybrid Theory". As for the obscurity of Mr. Riemenschneider, I’m sure the editors at the Star Tribune will beg to differ since they publish his column covering the Twin Cities music scene every week in their newspaper.  Not to mention the Austin American Statesman where he wrote for six years covering such obscure bands as U2. And I won’t mention the other obscure little publications that he contributed to like the Village Voice and Rolling Stone Magazine.
