Lady Gaga Cancels Tour To Undergo Hip Surgery

(popmusiclife) Lady Gaga has been forced to cancel the remaining dates on her Born This Way Ball tour so that she can undergo hip surgery.

Gaga's team announced that the singer has a labral tear of the right hip that will require surgery to repair the issue, followed by strict down time to recover.

There were 21 dates left on the tour before it was scheduled to have wrapped up March 20th in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Refunds for the cancelled performances will be available at point of purchase starting February 14, 2013. more on this story

Lil Wayne Sparks Controversy With Lyrics About Civil Rights Icon

(Radio.com) Lil Wayne has made his mark on Black History month, but surely not in the way he intended. Epic Records has promised to remove his crude reference to Emmett Till, the 14-year-old African-American kid who became an icon in the Civil Rights movement after he was beaten to death for whistling at a white woman in 1955.

The offending lyrics appeared on Future's remix for "Karate Chop," that leaked on Monday (February 12). In the song, which talks about selling ("chopping") drugs, Lil Wayne makes his off-color reference to Till.

"About to put rims on my skate board wheels/ Beat that p***y up like Emmett Till"

After a day of backlash and internet protests, Epic issued a statement saying they repost the song without Wayne's offending lyrics.

"We regret the unauthorized remix version of Future's 'Karate Chop,' which was leaked online and contained hurtful lyrics," the statement said. "Out of respect for the legacy of Emmett Till and his family and the support of the Reverend Jesse L. Jackson, Sr. … we are going through great efforts to take down the unauthorized version."

While Epic pointed out that the version that caused the backlash was a leak, that initially hit over the weekend, Future did explain that the official song did include Lil Wayne.

Legless Olympian Arrested For Murdering Girlfriend

Olympian Oscar Pistorius, who is a double amputee that competed with carbon fiber blade legs, has been arrested for allegedly murdering his girlfriend.

Pistorius was arrested in Pretoria, South Africa. He was accused of shooting 30-year-old Reeva Steenkamp in the hand and head, according to TMZ.

They report that the 26-year-old Olympic star, who has been nicknamed Blade Runner for his artificial legs, has only been dating Steenkamp for a few months but there has reportedly been "previous incidents" between the two at Pistorius' home.

Steenkamp was killed inside Pistorius' home in Pretoria, and a 9 mm pistol was reportedly found at the scene. Steenkamp was an aspiring model and a law graduate, according to the report.

Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z Release Suit & Tie Video

(Radio.com) Justin Timberlake's lyric video for "Suit & Tie" only hinted at what was to come. Now fans get a peak inside JT's creativity.

The soulful track shows Justin where he's most comfortable: onstage and in the studio behind the microphone.

The video for "Suit & Tie" is an excellent throwback to 1920s jazz and swing music. Not a major shift from his performance at this year's GRAMMYs, Justin embodies the character of a Big Band leader from the way he conducts his band in the studio and onstage to his slicked back hairstyle. Shot in black and white, it's easy to picture Justin putting on a Brat Pack era, old Vegas show complete with a choreographed tie routine and backup dancers.

Directed by David Fincher, this isn't the duo's first collaboration. Fincher first directed JT in The Social Network. Known for his films including Fight Club, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Seven, Fincher is no stranger to producing music videos. While he's had his focus on films over the past few years, this is his first music video in eight years. more

One Direction Owe Success To Big Time Rush?

(Celebuzz) Simon Cowell may have discovered One Direction, but a fellow boy band says they're responsible for the English group's massive success, at least, in the U.S. of A.

"One thing we can say is that they never played in the U.S. until they opened for us on our winter tour," James Maslow of Big Time Rush told Celebuzz.

Maslow, along with fellow BTR members Carlos Pena Jr. and Kendall Schmidt, were in Santa Monica, Calif. for the Hall of Game Awards hosted by the Cartoon Network on Feb. 9.

"All I gotta say is that this is America," Schmidt added with a smirk. "This is America, and we're American. They're still not an American boy band. We're representing. We're holding our own."

Jokes aside, it's hard to believe that exactly one year has passed since 1D opened for 10 BTR shows during the Better With U Tour. Now, Harry Styles and the boys are just days away from embarking on their 2013 World Tour.

"They did ask for us to go and open for them," Pena Jr. said of returning the tour favor. "We really wanted to . . . our show shoots right now, and it kind of conflicted."

() "Extra's" Renee Bargh caught up with Demi Lovato at TopShop's new Los Angeles location at The Grove, which opened on Valentine's Day. The pop singer talked about "X Factor," her broken leg and her body image.

Demi told Renee she would "love" to return to "X Factor" if her schedule allows. "I'm focusing on my music this year, so it's going to be a lot of touring, a lot of promoting of my album… but I would love to. Obviously, if they asked for me to come back, I'd say yes."

With Britney Spears exiting the competition show, she would love to see another superstar take her place. "I would love to see Lady Gaga. I don't know if that is possible or not," she said.

Demi is also on the mend. She broke her leg after her roommate "Pledged" the floor. "I slipped and fell in my living room and, God bless my roommate, but she's not used to cleaning and so she actually "Pledged" the floors... Needless to say that didn't go very well."

Hours later, she was back to work, shooting the cover for her new single, "Heart Attack." "Thank God I went, because it's my favorite photo shoot I've ever done and they were able to shoot it so you don't see my foot."

Toni Braxton Quitting Music To Pursue Acting

(Radio.com) With six Grammys to her name and over 66 million albums sold, Toni Braxton's soulful voice has been a fixture in R&B music for over two decades. But now the singer says she's ready to walk away from it all to become a Hollywood starlet.

Braxton revealed to NBC's The Grio that she plans to retire from music so she can focus on landing more acting roles on the big and small screens.

"For what I do I have to love it. I have to feel that excitement and it's gone," Braxton said. "I'm just not going to do any albums anymore; maybe touring occasionally here and there because I love performing, but not as much as I did in the past. But no new projects."

The singer, who currently stars in her own reality show Braxton Family Values on WE, recently starred in the Lifetime Original Movie Twist of Faith, and is eager to land more roles beyond her reality series.

"I hate to have 'reality star' behind my name," Braxton said. "That's just not what I wanted to be when I grew up." more on this story

Tyler, The Creator Announces New Album and Tour

Tyler, The Creator will be releasing a new studio album and also launching a tour this spring.

Tyler has set an April 2nd release date for the new album, Wolf. The release will feature three separate covers, including a deluxe version featuring art by Los Angeles-based Pop Surrealist, Mark Ryden.

The North American Wolf tour is set to launch on March 12th in Columbus, OH and conclude on April 11th in Portland, OR.

Added to the mix this are Diddy, Lil Wayne, Hit-Boy and Waka Flocka Flame, who join will and Britney on the track.

"It's turnt up, amplified, maximized, screaming, shouting — I never thought that a remix would be this freaking crazy," will told MTV News about this version of the song. "Remixes have always been important, but this one...it's so freaking fresh that we had to do a video for it. Passion Pit Get Carried Away With New Video

Passion Pit have released a new music video for their new single, "Carried Away," and fans can watch it online.

The song is the second single from the group's latest album, Gossamer. The video was directed by sibling-duo Brewer (Alt –J, Purity Ring, War on Drugs), and stars Sophia Bush and Passion Pit's Michael Angelakos.

"The music video was shot in Los Angeles and tells the story of a love/hate relationship through a playful Godard- inspired narrative that follows the couple throughout their home," explains Brewer. Watch it here.

Mika Stripping Down For Intimate Tour

Mika will be hitting the road next month to launch a North American tour of intimate venues.

The special shows will feature Mika performing stripped down set accompanied by a pianist and guitarist.

The tour is set to kick off on March 22nd in Vancouver, BC and will conclude on April 13th in Boston, Ma.

Cher Lloyd Releases Alternate 'With Ur Love' Video

(popmusiclife) UK pop star Cher Lloyd has released a video for her latest single, "With Ur Love." Issued on Valentine's Day, the track is from Lloyd's debut album, "Sticks & Stones," which was released last year.

The new version of the video is different than one she released in the UK when the song was released as a single there last year.

Lloyd has already begun working on her second album. "It's going very well," she says, reports MTV UK. "I'm going in every single day with different producers trying things out. It's kinda crazy. You kind of look back at the people you're working with and are like, 'Wow, I'm working with some pretty amazing people'."

Talking more about the team she is working with, she continued: "I'm friendly with Max Martin. He's so great and his whole team is amazing. That's the team I've been working with. I've been writing because I want this album to be me. It's not always right to just have a song given to you." Watch the video here.

Amy Speace Streaming New Song Online

Amy Speace is giving fans an early taste of her forthcoming album, How To Sleep in a Stormy Boat".

The album isn't set to be released until April 16th but Speace has premiered the title track online. You can listen here.

The album was inspired by her early work as an actress with the National Shakespeare Company. Each song of the release is coupled with a Shakespearean quote.

"I went back to read [Shakespeare's] plays and found this very modern lamenting of love, lust, longing, denial, betrayal, rage, sorrow - everything I was wrestling with myself, feeling isolated and lost: the madness of the dream," she says.

Richard Marx Didn't Want 'Right Here Waiting' For Himself

(Radio.com) Richard Marx never intended to record "Right Here Waiting" and even tried to pawn it off on Barbra Streisand.

His biggest hit actually started as a love letter to his wife, Cynthia, who, at that time, he had been dating for two years. The couple was forced apart by their work—he was on a world tour, she was filming a movie in Africa—for three months. "This was before Skype, before email," he told Radio.com. "This is when long distance calls cost 44 dollars a minute."

Marx sat down one day to write away his pain and 17 minutes later he had "Right Here Waiting." He sent the cassette ("That's how long ago 1988 was," he joked) and never planned to sing the song again.

Unfortunately, Cynthia started playing it for their friends and everyone started asking, "When are you going to record this?" But Marx wasn't interested in letting other people hear his feelings, comparing the song to a love letter in the newspaper.

"I'm a guy, I write songs like that, but I can't say, 'Oceans apart, day after day,' I can't say that," he said. more on this story

The Backstreet Boys Promise To Reveal All In Their New Movie

(Radio.com) The Backstreet Boys are revealing it all in a new documentary that chronicles their journey from teenyboppers to one of the biggest boy bands in the world.

In a statement, the five members of BSB–A.J. McLean, Howie Dorough, Nick Carter, Kevin Richardson and Brian Littrell– said they always wanted to make a film, but it never felt like the right time until now.

"With Kevin back, the fact that we are masters of our own destiny, a new album in the works and our 20th anniversary — it all adds up to being the right time to share our story," they wrote.

Last year, the guys announced that they would be recording their first new album together since 2005's Never Gone. They plan to release it later this year to celebrate twenty years as a band. more on this story

OneRepublic Frontman Surprised With Bathroom Serenade

During an interview with 96.5 TIC/Hartford Tedder shared the most surprising place he has heard his music.

"I walked into the bathroom stall, doing what people do in the bathroom stall. A guy sits down next to me, and there's music playing," Ryan recalled.
