One Direction Fans Riot
(Radio.com) An advance screening of This is Us, the new documentary about One Direction, was a first-come, first-serve affair in Los Angeles that planned to let in a mere fraction of the hundreds of patrons that obtained free tickets. That didn't go off too well.

The screening, which took place at L.A.'s Pacific Theatres at the Grove last Saturday morning (Aug. 3), was delayed after hundreds of fans, scorned by their denial of entry after the first 100 in line were admitted, proceeded to rush the theater, causing employees to contact police to help quell the crowd, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Apparently, This is Us was to be shown before an audience that received free tickets on Gofobo, a website that allows visitors the opportunity to get into advance screenings of many Hollywood films. The website supplied more tickets than there were spots in the theater, but that didn't stop the hundreds in line at the screening to remain optimistic about their chances of getting a seat inside.

The film was set to begin at 10 a.m., with some of the line leaders having arrived at 3:45 a.m. to secure a spot, the Times says. The first 100 were let into the theater, surrendering cellphones. Afterward, there were still empty seats, but by 10:15 a.m. — 15 minutes after the scheduled start — there was still no movie onscreen and an usher had come in to implore the audience to remain calm, that fans outside that hadn't yet been admitted were rushing the theater.

According to Lizette Van Patten, a 40-year-old mom who had brought her 13-year-old daughter and her friend, hundreds of the turned-away fans — mostly young and female — blew past the ticket takers and into the theater entrance. more on this story

Justin Bieber Involved In Club Brawl?
(Radio.com) Beleaguered pop star Justin Bieber cannot seem to stay out of trouble these days, with a report from New York that puts the singer at the center of a Southampton nightclub brawl that spilled out into the parking lot.

According to the New York Daily News, Bieber and an entourage arrived at club South Pointe around 2 a.m. this past Sunday morning (August 7) , taking over the VIP section.

Sources on the scene told the newspaper that Bieber's security was "overbearing" and "intimidating" to club-goers who ventured too close to the singer. After one female patron approached Bieber, the conversation turned ugly when the woman's male friend got into an argument with the pop star.

According to the paper's unnamed source, Bieber "ripped off his shirt and went nuts. He was screaming" before his bodyguards quickly escorted him to waiting SUVs in the parking lot.

While details are still sketchy, the altercation was reignited in the club parking lot. more.

Kanye West To Take The Stage At MTV VMAs
(Radio.com) With Lady Gaga already scheduled to debut her new single "ARTPOP" at this year's Video Music Awards, MTV has revealed that controversy lightning rod Kanye West will also take the VMA stage at the award show ceremony later this month. He will perform his current single, "Black Skinhead" from the much-discussed new album Yeezus. West recently debuted the interactive video for the song after an earlier leak.

The appearance will mark the seventh time West has rocked the VMAs, tying Madonna for the most performances. This year's awards ceremony is scheduled for Aug. 25 at Brooklyn's Barclays Center arena.

MTV announced West's upcoming VMA appearance across their various outlets, including an Instagram photo loaded with croissants alongside a statement that reads "Don't worry, 'Ye, we got your damn croissants," an obvious reference to the line from Yeezus track "I Am A God" ("In a French-ass restaurant/Hurry up with my damn croissants"). That line quickly went viral upon the album's release. more on this story

Robin Thicke Made Unusual Vow
(Radio.com) For many musicians, the idea of hearing their song on the radio is a distant dream. But not for Robin Thicke. Having penned and produced numerous hits for other artists as a teenager, by the time he was in his early 20s he was ready to hear his own voice on the radio. In fact, he even made a vow not to cut his hair until he heard his song on the radio.

"When I was about 24 I released my first single 'When I Get You Alone,' and I had long hair down to my shoulders," he told Radio.com. "People say, 'Hey why did you cut your hair after the video?' It was because I had told myself I wouldn't cut my hair until I heard my song on the radio."

Thicke grew out his hair for two years. Then shortly after he heard his song on the radio, he chopped off his long locks. "I think I was in Los Angeles, I was leaving my house going down the hill and I heard it play on the radio," he recalled. "I was all by myself and I was like, 'AH! Nobody's even here to enjoy this with me right now.'"

This summer it's nearly impossible to go anywhere without hearing Thicke's No. 1 single "Blurred Lines" on the radio. His first No. 1 single, Thicke has come quite a way since his long-haired days. "What's changed about my image the most with the song is that people actually know who I am now," he said of "Blurred Lines." More including an album stream link.

MGMT Release 'Your Life Is A Lie'
(Radio.com) MGMT has released the "Your Life Is A Lie," the first single from their forthocming self-titled album due to hit stores September 17 on Columbia Records.

Accompanying the short two-minute song with distorted audio is a video offering an incredible assortment of odd characters in bizarre situations, including plenty of men in their underwear, spittoons used as percussion, choirs of scuba gear-clad crazies, egg explosions, fireworks and a lizard crawling out of a guy's mouth.

"We're still in that mindset where we want to write really poppy music that doesn't follow that normal kind of structures," told singer Andrew VanWyngarden to French music magazine Brain.

"I think that happens mostly because of the way we write and the way it comes about. We don't write and sing at the same time usually so we have to make things interesting in other ways."

Speaking of the band's new album, VanWyngarden explained, "It's kind of a mix of American psychedelic and Californian sunshine-y pop from the sixties but I think there's also a lot of English music from the '80s influencing our new songs." Check out the song and read more here.

Mumford & Sons Talk About Recent Medical Scare
(Radio.com) In June, Mumford & Sons postponed several tour dates when bassist Ted Dwane was taken to the hospital after a blood clot was discovered on the surface of his brain.

Now fully recovered, Dwane and Marcus Mumford talked with Chicago radio station WXRT (a Radio.com station) about the medical scare before their headlining set this past Saturday (Aug. 3) at Lollapalooza.

Dwane confessed that he didn't know what was happening other than suffering from "a brutal headache." "It's a bit of a weird one. I think it happened during a gig. We didn't know what it was for about ten days so we just cracked on, did a bunch more shows." Dwane said. "Eventually they put me in a scanner and found it and operated the next day. We had to reschedule a few gigs. But apart from that, all is well."

Marcus Mumford remains impressed at Dwane's ability to keep performing despite the blood clot that formed. "He was a brave little bunny," Mumford added. "He played to over 100,000 people that week with that thing in his head. Badass."

One of the canceled gigs was a set at Bonnaroo, something Dwane and Mumford said was a difficult decision. more on this story

Randy Houser Scores Another No. 1
(Radio.com) When Radio.com sat down with Randy Houser after the release of his new single "Runnin' Outta Moonlight," he knew the song had something special.

"I love it, and I think it's maybe going to be even a bigger song than 'How Country Feels,'" he told Radio.com. It turns out Houser was right. The second single off his album How Country Feels, "Runnin' Outta Moonlight" is now also his second No. 1 single off the record. It follows the title track "How Country Feels," which reached No. 1 earlier this year.

Of "Moonlight," which was penned by Ashley Gorley, Kelley Lovelace, and current ACM Songwriter of the Year Dallas Davidson, Houser said the track instantly grabs listeners.

"It's the first song on the album, and it grabs you from the very start," he said. "I've had people actually say, 'You know, I've had this album for a week now and I haven't gotten past the first song.' They love that song and I do, too."

The second single from his album How Country Feels, which he just released this past January, Houser called "Runnin' Outta Moonlight" a fun track, he explained why it was important to convey this to country fans. more on this story

Jay-Z Premieres Picasso Baby
(Radio.com) Nearly a month after the fact, the short film covering Jay Z's six-hour performance of his song "Picasso Baby" saw its premiere this past weekend.

Picasso Baby: A Performance Art Film premiered on HBO Friday night (Aug. 2). The nearly 11-minute film (about four minutes of which are credits) highlights the performance the rapper did at New York's Pace Gallery on July 10 and features a number of different artists, musicians, actors and more among its on-screen talent.

Culled from footage from the six-hour rendition of the Magna Carta… Holy Grail track, the film begins with an interview with Hova himself, explaining that artists and musicians are "alike, we're cousins," so he was excited to "bring those worlds back together" with Picasso Baby. Over the next few minutes, he raps along to "Picasso Baby" while various guests, celebrity or otherwise, take turns interacting with him in a central space surrounded by a group of fans, who were allowed in to witness the performance.

Some of the more noticeable stars to pop up include Wale — whose album The Gifted preceded Magna Carta's reign on the Billboard 200 by two weeks — actors Alan Cumming and Taraji P. Henson, GQ writer Glenn O'Brien, and filmmaker Judd Apatow, who chooses to take a phone call during his turn with the rapper.

One of the more amusing parts of the video occurs when Sandra Gering, a New York art dealer, sits down to be swooned by Jay. Gering's appearance apparently throws off the rapper, who deviates from the lyrics slightly, smiling: "You messed up my whole flow / But I'mma get it back." more on this story

Oprah Talks New Movie and Lindsay Lohan But Not Paula Deen
(Extra) "Extra's" AJ Calloway sat down with Oprah Winfrey on Monday as she promoted her return to the big screen in the Lee Daniels film "The Butler," playing the wife of a White House butler who served eight presidents from the 1950s to the '80s.

Oprah vented up front that she has done over 50 interviews and warned Calloway not to ask her about Paula Deen. Oprah laughed, "Oh my god! I don't have anything to do with Paula Deen. She is not the first white lady to use the 'n' word! Good lord!"

On "The Butler," Winfrey admitted she had multiple conversations with director Lee Daniels before taking the role because he had asked her to do other parts in the past. She explained, "He wanted me to be an assassin, then he wanted me to play a person who kidnaps children and holds them hostage. I called him up and said 'Do not send me anything like this again, cause I'm gonna burn it!'"

Winfrey said she did "The Butler" because it was about families that love each other, "where we are middle class people, working, just wanting for their children to grow and be somebody in the world."

Oprah talked about being rejected for some roles. "I'm going to tell you something I haven't told anyone else. Before the movie 'Doubt' came out, I called the director of the film and I said, 'I would like an opportunity to come and audition,' and the director said he would not even see me because 'it would be hard for the audience to accept that you are the character and not Oprah.'"

The queen of talk was also happy to score the first post-rehab interview with Lindsay Lohan on "Oprah's Next Chapter," airing Sunday, August 18.

Winfrey said she understood how Lohan went wrong as a child star. "If I had been given seven million dollars, which is what she was getting paid per film [as a child star], I'd not be sitting here today. I would have completely come unglued and destroyed myself." more on this story

Matt Damon Too Boring For The Tabloids
(Extra) "Extra's" Mario Lopez sat down with Matt Damon to talk about his new sci-fi thriller, "Elysium," and the actor told Mario his secret to staying out of the public eye.

Damon admitted he's been really lucky that the paparazzi don't bug him. He explained, "I think marrying somebody that is not in the business really helped, and luckily I fell in love with somebody who is not in the business. Our narrative is so boring -- married couple, four kids -- what are they going to get, me on the couch?"

In "Elysium," Damon plays Max, a poor laborer who lives in the ruins of Los Angeles while dreaming to one day live on Elysium, a space station home to the wealthy and elite.

The actor appears in the film with a shaved head, tattoos, and ripped body and said wife Luciana Barroso "liked it." He laughed, "The kids loved the shaved head, they thought that was cool. Lucy liked me being in shape. I was like, 'You know I'm not keeping this after the movie, right?'" more on this story
