(Radio.com) In a wide-ranging Rolling Stone interview regarding his new band Atoms for Peace, Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke spoke out candidly on subjects including EDM, Amazon and a certain male pop crooner."Who the f**k is Bruno Mars?" Yorke said when discussing how Atoms for Peace's debut album, Amok, entered the Billboard 200 chart at No. 2 behind Mars' Unorthodox Jukebox this past February. He added, "Sorry. I'll get slandered now," "Bruno Mars had a special on Amazon. That's why," offered Yorke's Atoms for Peace bandmate Nigel Godrich, referring to Unorthodox Jukebox being sold for only $1.99 during Amok's week of release. At that point, Mars' album had been out for more than two months. "Amazon f**ks with us every time," Yorke added. "They undercut us. So really, it was No. 1." more on this story

(Radio.com) While the annual Coachella festival built its sizeable reputation on delivering an impressive range of musical acts ranging from alt-rock legends to emerging artists, the three-day concert has become so popular that the overall experience often overshadows the music itself.A recent sketch on Jimmy Kimmel Live! highlights that phenomenon by quizzing random Coachella concertgoers about which acts they're most excited to see, suggesting a few bands which they enthusiastically endorse. The only problem is that most of the bands they're raving about don't exist. The TV crew got Coachella attendees to endorse "Dr. Shlomo and the GI Clinic" ("they're always amazing," says one fan), "The Obesity Epidemic" and "Regis and the Philbins." They also approach a male concert attendee about the very real band Two Door Cinema Club, which he says he played on Canadian community radio. While that may be true, that band has never released an album called DJ Cornmeal, as the Kimmel correspondent suggests. The crew even gets one unsuspecting female Coachella-goer to enthuse over "Get the F*** Out of My Pool" and "The Chelsea Clintons," who she says "give off good energy" and "you can tell they do it from a good place… There are very few acts that give you that feeling." Check it out here!

The third single off Guetta's Nothing But the Beat 2.0., the trio join forces on the track and in the video, all the while proving that they know how to have a good time.Ne-Yo took to Twitter to describe the clip as "Strange…but fly!" and his words couldn't be more true. " Shouts to the homie @davidguetta and @Akon. Check for that "Play Hard" video. Strange...but fly! Open your mind...or just dance damnit! Luv!" At the video's start, two men venture into a back alleyway and hand over a stack of cash for some magical boots. As the boots are delivered to their new owner at a party house, a girl is shown in the corner of the house dancing as if she's possessed with plenty of popping and locking. As men play card games throughout the mansion, Ne-Yo is shown doing something a little more innocent: eating pancakes. Meanwhile, Guetta gets inked and manages to leave his mark on one tattoo artist, writing his name on his back with a magic marker as another artist is tattooing him. But that's not all.

(Radio.com) No one would blame Phoenix if they decided to stick with the same crowd-pleasing sound that worked so well for them on their breakthrough album, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. But the French foursome definitely weren't interested in continuing right where they left off in 2009. With their latest record, Bankrupt!, the band wanted to play around with their sound and maybe even force a few people to question whether they were even the same group of guys that made "1901."Guitarist Laurent Brancowitz said in our latest Radio.com Essentials profile (below) that experimenting is nothing new for Phoenix. "We really want each album to sound like a different band even though we know that's not possible," he explained. "But we try every time to find new forms and with this album even more than others." Take, the record's first single "Entertainment," which uses the Asian riff (a nod to David Bowie's "China Girl") to explore the idea of those massive demonstrations in North Korea. "Imagine one individual that is a part of those huge choreographies with over 30,000 participants… and the sadness and melancholy of the fake smile," Brancowitz said. "That was the idea that we were trying to transcribe." More including video.

Today Anoop Desai tells us about his new single "Love War" featuring ADHD. The single precedes the release of his debut album, which will be released later this year. Here is the story: I started working with producer and DJ ADHD in the Fall of 2011 on some material we originally thought would be for a mixtape, but ended up being my EP "3 Cheers". ADHD had sent over a few tracks to see if I had any topline melody or lyric ideas for them, and one happened to be an early version of the "Love War" track. That version was a lot busier in the verse sections, but we thinned those parts out when we decided to make it a vocal song. I was struck immediately by the synth line in the buildup and the drop. It's this eerie organ synth that bears down on you as the hook progresses. It builds and builds so that by the time the drop happens, you're just marching lockstep right along with it...one of those melodic motifs that you catch yourself humming days later without being able to remember where it came from. So off the bat, we had an amazing foundation for the song. The concept of "Love War" is a pretty universal one, but the music just brought that imagery to mind right away. There was this vision of two people alone on a World War I battlefield, just entrenched in their own conflict while the world went on around them, paying no mind. The last two soldiers in a war everyone else had forgotten about. I knew that I wanted to let the track shine as much as possible, so I made the verses as simple as I could. I'm a writer that tends to add a lot of flourishes to pop songs, so it was an exercise in restraint for me. When we got into the studio to record vocals, I had a sketch of what I wanted to say, but the final lyrics were written almost on the fly in the control room. If memory serves, we were recording two or three songs that day. It was a long process so we stopped briefly to pick up a couple six packs of beer. Upon returning to the studio, ADHD and I sat and talked about the song and it kind of went into this story time about past relationships. I think we've all been in situations where we wish we didn't care about a person so much, especially romantically. I, for one, have never been good at stepping away and detaching myself from a bad situation. Instead, I tend to get stuck in these wars of love. And at the end of the day, they're really wars of pride and selfishness. Either each person is trying to prove something, or one doesn't care and the other does, etc. Inspired and a little tipsy, I wrote probably six verses inspired by a girl in my past. It became a pretty personal narrative for me at points, but the two verses we kept were the two I felt gave listeners an opportunity to apply the song and that initial imagery to their own story. That, to me, is one of the beautiful things about pop music. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and check out the video right here!
