(Radio.com) Jordan Knight of New Kids on the Block knows a thing or two about being a teen idol. Though he's past his adolescent heartthrob years now, Knight knows how overwhelming that experience can be — and he thinks the media should just lay off Justin Bieber. In the last month, Bieber has collapsed on stage in London, cancelled a show in Portugal, fought with a paparazzo, vented on Instagram (killing two birds with one stone by also managing to insult Lindsay Lohan in the same rant) and most recently, he was investigated on battery charges by the L.A. County Sheriff after an alleged assault on a neighbor. Though the press has had a field day dissecting all his wacky behavior, Knight told Boston radio station Mix 104.1 that the "Baby" singer's reaction to all the attention he's been receiving is understandable. Who wouldn't get angry over all the tabloid scrutiny? While Knight wasn't all that familiar with the details of everything that has happened, he did hear about Bieber's altercation with a paparazzi after being released from the hospital. Knight acknowledged that photographers and people from sites like TMZ will provoke celebrities into situations that will elicit angry reactions. "What they didn't show was what the paparazzi was saying to him before he went in," Knight said. "[TMZ] go around with their cameras and ask you stupid questions or something that will make you mad." Though it's unfortunate that Bieber fell for it, Knight said it's not surprising he would act out. "For him to react that way is really only human," he explained. "What is he 18, 19?" He has more to say.

(Radio.com) Beyonce has released the remix to the controversial "Bow Down/I Been On," in which she features a cast of rappers from Houston. While she has received flack over her bold message that instructs "b******" to bow down, Eve said Beyoncé is well within the parameters of her throne."Beyoncé is on such a level that she doesn't need to prove anything to anyone at all," Eve told Radio.com. "That's why some people don't like that record. If you listen to the lyrics and some of the things she's saying, she definitely is coming at some specific person, which is 'Why do you even care.' But at the same time, she's a bossy b****. Do it." When Beyoncé dropped the original song in March, singer Keyshia Cole was among the loudest critics. "First 'Women need to Stick together' now b****** better Bow," Cole tweeted. "Smh. But it's all G! Chicks stay shooting the sh*t. But when I speak my mind its a prob. #Well #StayMad" Refusing to be silenced, Beyoncé returned with a remix that featured a cast of Houston, Texas-based artist, a nod to her own Houston roots. Z-Ro, Bun B, the Willie D, Slim Thug, Scarface and Lil KeKe trade verses over the Hit Boy and Timbaland-produced track. more on this story

The band of siblings — Reid, Neil and Kimberly Perry — kicked off the evening with energetic kiss-off and current single "DONE." The guitar-heavy track showcased Kimberly's powerhouse vocals as she sang with distinct sass, telling a former flame they're over. The energy didn't waver as The Band Perry segued into "You Lie." When Kimberly raised her hands to conduct the audience as if the fans were her choir, it was evident she held them in the palm of her hands–and that they would do whatever she asked. Elton John and Bernie Taupin are set to be honored with the Johnny Mercer Award this year by the Songwriters Hall of Fame. The award will be handed out at the 44th Annual Induction and Awards Dinner slated for Thursday, June 13th at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City. Songwriters Hall of Fame's Jimmy Webb said of the duo, "Some catalogs are more 'deep' and significant than others not only because of their pertinence to the times in which they were written, but because their sheer mass is overpowering. It's just not that easy to write 40 Top 10 records. It's kind of like swimming the English Channel with your hands tied behind your back. Elton's readily identifiable melodic piano style has proven to be a perfect accompaniment to Bernie's razor sharp lyrics about relationships and living on the edge of life both in good and bad times." This year they will be inducting Tony Hatch, Mick Jones & Lou Gramm, Holly Knight, JD Souther, Steven Tyler & Joe Perry. They will also be giving their Pioneer Award to Motown Records founder Berry Gordy.

(Radio.com) In the wake of March's Ultra Music Festival, one clear point of controversy emerged: Avicii's new album. In the course of his 75-minute set at the festival Avicii decided, in advance, to unveil his not-yet-released album using a mix of DJing and live performances that included the guests who will appear on the album."It's just been, for me, very interesting [as a] learning experience," Avicii said in an interview with Radio.com. "I've been working with — instead of DJs, I've been working with musicians that come from completely different upbringings. Like, they've learned music differently and different ways of looking at music. Like [Chic leader/legendary producer] Nile Rodgers or Aloe Blacc or — I've been working a lot with [Incubus guitarist] Mike Einziger." Although he'd spoken to Rolling Stone in February and revealed most of the decidedly mixed guest list, which also includes vocalists Dan Tyminski and Audra Mae as well as legendary songwriter Mac Davis, hearing that new portion of his Ultra set open with nothing but banjos and Aloe Blacc's vocals with nary a beat to be found sparked mixed reactions in the media. more on this story

(Radio.com) Inspiration often comes from unlikely places. For New Zealand singer Gin Wigmore, her new album Gravel & Wine took a new turn when she traveled down South to Elvis Presley's old stomping grounds."It's a whole new world really, the history of music. For me, I learned about Elvis for the first time which is pretty impressive," she confessed. "I never knew what the big fuss was with Elvis. I never got why there were these crazy fans who dedicated their lives to this man." Wigmore explained that going to Memphis and visiting Sun Studio and Graceland helped her understand who Presley was and his impact on the music world. "He was a total King. I really learned a lot about his showmanship and how it was a show. He put on cool suits and was a performer," she said. "I listened to so much of his music and I think that really rubbed off on me for this record." Her latest Butch Walker produced album explores dark characters and weaves empowering messages throughout each song. While her music videos bring to mind Quentin Tarantino, the comparison isn't far off as Wigmore is a big fan. "I'm obsessed with Quentin Tarantino and right before this record I was watching film noir and black and white movies. The Night of the Hunter and all these old slasher films, real character based films," Wigmore said. more on this story

(Radio.com) Although he may not have the household name recognition of his collaborators, Dallas Davidson is certainly no stranger to country music. He moved to Nashville nearly 10 years ago and has written a slew of hits you've likely heard on the radio, ranging from Trace Adkin's "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk" and Blake Shelton's "All About Tonight" to Lady Antebellum's "Just a Kiss" and Brad Paisley and Keith Urban's "Start a Band."So it's only fitting that Davidson will be awarded this year's Academy of Country Music Award for Songwriter of the Year. Radio.com recently sat down with Randy Houser to ask the singer what it's like to write with Davidson, who helped co-write his current single, "Runnin' Outta Moonlight." "Dallas has been one of my closest friends since we both moved to Nashville," Houser explained. "We all learned how to make our way in Nashville together and we've written a ton of songs over the years." While Houser can't count just how many songs the two have written together, he said it's close to 100. "He's a pleasure to write with 'cause he's so good. We've all gotten to watch each other grow in what we do and get better at what we do," Houser said. more.
