We Were The States Overcome Nashville Floods To Release New Album
We Were The States have released their new album Rasa and it has a very interesting back story: We Were The States had nearly completed the recording of its new album Rasa when the Nashville floods came. With two feet of water in the basement of Coat of Arms studio, the band went from euphoric to discouraged, thinking the record they had worked on for two years would be indefinitely derailed.

Regrouping at Nashville's Club Roar studio, the Murfreesboro-based five-piece quickly prepped for very long hours on a very limited budget, but ultimately persevered. The resulting album captures all of the energy and precise abandon of the band's much-loved live show while also reflecting the realistic frustrations of their situation. It's a tense record, but still a joy to listen to.

Working with producers Jesse Newport and Daniel Feese, We Were The States vocalist Justin Webb was encouraged to approach the songs he wrote for Rasa like he had never heard them before. Webb explains that Feese gave him the freedom to try all of the ideas he had in his head.

Cornershop Release New Song Featuring Bubbley Kaur
Cornershop have released their new track, "United Provinces of India," from their new album featuring Bubbley Kaur on vocals.

Released on the band's own label, Ample Play, Cornershop & the Double 'O' Groove Of is a project that's been in the works since Kaur guested on the band's now-classic 2004 single "Topknot," which got a killer remix treatment with a guest vocal by M.I.A.

Writer & producer Tjinder Singh has commented on the new longplayer, "The full-length album was started on as early as 2005, and rather than rushing it, I thought I needed to take the time to put it out properly. It's the type of album I've wanted to have out since my youth and enthusiasm for raw Punjabi folk music - no auto-tune in sight. Little did I know it would be with a lady that I overheard singing whilst in my local launderette." - more on this story

80 Blocks From Tiffany's Coming To DVD
(Audible Treats) Five Day Weekend and Traffic Entertainment are proud to announce the release of 80 Blocks From Tiffany's, director Gary Weis' 1979 documentary about the South Bronx and its gang culture.

The previously unavailable film is now out on DVD, marking the first time it has been offered to the public in decades, and is accompanied by a handful of exciting bonus features.

Director Gary Weis was still working as a short film creator for Saturday Night Live when he came up with the idea for 80 Blocks after reading a Jon Bradshaw article, "Savage Skulls." Published in a 1977 issue of Esquire Magazine, the piece centered on two gangs based in the South Bronx at the time -- the Savage Nomads and the Savage Skulls. Weis became infatuated with the story and, soon after striking up a dialogue with Bradshaw, he convinced SNL producer Lorne Michaels to help him produce the film. Just two years later, in 1979, Weis and Bradshaw brought a camera crew to speak with members of both gangs, along with police officers, community activists, and civilians. - more on this story
