The Dresden Dolls' frontwoman Amanda Palmer gleefully announced her release from a major label stranglehold in April after a protracted legal battle with Roadrunner Records. To celebrate, Palmer hit the home studio of engineer Mick Wordley in Adelaide, Australia and self-produced a collection of Radiohead covers on ukulele (an instrument she learned "as a joke" in 2008 to play the Radiohead song "Creep" at a pal's benefit for Iranian punk musicians), adding minimal touches of prepared and toy piano. Titled Amanda Palmer Plays The Popular Hits Of Radiohead On Her Magical Ukulele, with '50s kitsch artwork to match, the album may seem a surprisingly plaintive & sweet departure for those familiar with her usually dynamic recordings, but not surprising for those who have been following her live shows. "Creep" became an anthemic request on her world-wide tour last year, making waves when Howard Stern broadcast her version (he fully approved), and making rock history at Coachella when she led a "Creep" sing-a-long held aloft by fans after crowd-surfing across her tent to "Ride of the Valkyries" by Wagner.

Husband and wife duo Ellery will be releasing their brand new album, This Isn't Over Yet, on June 15. The album was produced by Malcolm Burn (Emmylou Harris, Bob Dylan, Kaki King, Iggy Pop, Dan Lanois) and recorded at Maison Bleue Studios in Kingston, NY. Tasha and Justin Golden sought out producer Malcolm Burn for the challenge and perspective he could bring to their songwriting, and the recording of This Isn't Over Yet in the summer of 2009 was indeed a welcome challenge. Encouraged by Malcolm to explore the sound they naturally create when playing together, they tracked voice, piano and guitar simultaneously. He pushed them to look at their songs in a new light, stripping some down, lowering the key in others, and revealing a newness in songs they'd been performing for a long while. Tasha described his process on the song "Ways To Go" as, "scraping away the dirt and finding the song, all stark and lonely." They left the recording session proud of their work, but emotionally drained.

Jon Lindsay is widely known for his work with his former band, the Young Sons, and as a member of Benji Hughes (New West) on keyboards and vocals, in addition to fronting the Catch Fire with Mike Mitschele (Jolene, Alternative Champs). He's now stepping out on his own with the release of his solo debut, Escape From Plaza-Midwood (August 17) on Chocolate Lab Records. A limited edition 7" Coping Strategies will be released on the same day, featuring four songs from the full-length. Escape From Plaza-Midwood is a brazen, 15-track indie pop gem, layered with vivid narratives and intricate musical craftsmanship, while retaining the intimacy and pathos to which Lindsay's fans are accustomed. Whether wielding an acoustic guitar and balladeering fearlessly about the world outside his window ("These Are the End Times"), plugging in to bring a Thin Lizzy-esque power chord romp ("My Blue Angels"), or coaxing a serenade out of a Wurlitzer ("I Take Care of You Now"), Lindsay's powerful and distinct voice shines through. Early notices are in from Lindsay's heroes and peers, and the verdict: Escape From Plaza-Midwood is a singular, captivating debut destined to age beautifully like a fine wine or that one Jonas brother (Groucho?).
