Eccentric Midwestern songstress Jen Gloeckner releases sophomore album this Spring. Mouth of Mars is the follow-up to her critically acclaimed One Little Indian debut Miles Away. This sophomore effort was recorded at her own Hazy Sky Studio in Dubuque, IA with additional recording by Brian McTear and Amy Morrissey at Miner Street Recordings, Philadelphia. The album was mixed by Brian McTear and produced by Jen Gloeckner and McTear; special guests include Joseph Arthur, cellist Helena Espvall (Espers), violin player Joel Zifkin (Rufus Wainwright), bassist Lisa Umbarger (Toadies) as well as McTear and Amy Morrissey (Bitter Bitter Weeks).MOJO Music Magazine has described Gloeckner's sound as "spell-weaving.different, dark, ethereal, funky; an alluring big-sky, small-room mystery." The new album is an instinct-driven exploration of primal emotion, where minimal lyrics and layers of sound evoke a universal, gut-level knowledge of desire, separation, and the sacred connection of souls. Jen depicts the human condition through sound-raw, dirty, brutal, healing, serene, and holy all at once. Gloeckner draws artistic inspiration from moods and images that she receives in dreams, and listeners discern a mythical, collective-unconsciousness underlying her music -songs that can be as daunting as the darkest nightmares and as redemptive as purest desire. At times Jen comes across as a fearsome seductress-cruelly masculine in her lyrical directness and often aggressive, driving rhythms, then delicate and weak with longing as a Victorian lady taking to her fainting couch. As on Miles Away, Mouth of Mars achieves impressive coherence in the masterful balance of the opposites it embraces.

In November of last year hip hop group Get Busy Committee (the new collaboration between Ryu from Styles of Beyond and Fort Minor, Apathy, and producer for Snoop, Clipse, Game, Busta Rhymes and more, Scoop Deville) released their new album, Uzi Does It in a very unique format: 2GB Uzi-shaped Flash drives. The format was a hit and surprisingly the band sold through their first order of 1200 Uzis in less than three months. Tuesday evening the band quietly released to their fans a project to fund the pressing of 500 limited, numbered picture disc 12" vinyl records via Kickstarter. Pledges to the product came with premiums ranging from a download of the EP (featuring three unreleased songs) for $5 to actually having one of the songs written ABOUT the purchaser and having the album delivered in a platinum plaque for $1000. The band was pleased and surprised when one fan, Damon Black, purchased the $1000 package less than 24 hours from release. "We hadn't sent out a Twitter, blog post, or anything except one email to the fan list," said Ryu of Get Busy Committee. "It just goes to show, respect your fans and they'll come through for you." "We don't know who Damon Black is," commented Apathy, "but you're our new best friend. Get at us so we can write this masterpiece for you."

The time has finally come for the release of Bleed Electric's much anticipated debut single, "The Last Night of 1989 / XII Special Weapons and Tactics." Bleed Electric is a Hip Hop / Alternative / Electro trio from Cardiff, Wales that is a result of the partnership between Altsounds.com owner Chris "MUG5" Maguire and band mates Silk and Siege. Originally a solo project for Maguire, Bleed Electric quickly grasped its definitive sound and identity upon Maguire's collaboration with Silk and Siege."The Last Night of 1989 / XII Special Weapons and Tactics" serves as an introduction to the several double A-side singles to be released in the next 18 months from Bleed Electric's debut albums "Radio Friendly Unit Shifter" and "The Butterfly Effect." The double A-sides actually consist of one track off of each respective album, with "Radio Friendly Unit Shifter" playing the role of the more commercially-acceptable counterpart to Bleed Electric's concept album, "The Butterfly Effect." Essentially these two albums are polar opposites of each other in all possible senses: sound, subject matter, and overall feel. Why this combination? Bleed Electric aims to draw in the masses through the lighter pop of "Radio Friendly Unit Shifter" in order to simultaneously hit listeners with the main focus of the band, which is the much darker material on "The Butterfly Effect." Touché, Bleed Electric, touché. Bleed Electric plans to release the rest of the double A-side singles throughout the next two years in order to create a piecing-together effect for the listener. Each back-side single from "The Butterfly Effect" is denoted with a Roman numeral to indicate in which order that single lies on the album. After Bleed Electric has released all the singles, the listeners will be able to recreate the entire storyline of "The Butterfly Effect," which essentially follows the life of main character Andy Turner and his walk through all sorts of crazy events involving love, drugs, murder, hostage situations, and everything else leading up to the taking of his own life.
