Australia is shipping us more musical goodness thanks to Philadelphia Grand Jury. Two childhood friends, Berkfinger and MC Bad Genius, add some 20 years and one observes a strange, tedious and sometimes very complicated relationship that always manages to somehow end up in a smart and ruff pop song. The band caught the ears of the UK record label Too Pure Records (Beggars Group) who decided to help expose the band beyond their home country of Australia. To do this, Too Pure will release "The Good News" in 7-inch single form this May. Which is good news indeed since the song is will go down in history as the most played independent single on Australian radio. Check out a track "Going To The Casino (Tomorrow Night)" MP3 and with just a little bit of luck (they are gambling men after all), it will not be long until the Philadelphia Grand Jury become household names all over the world.

Raised on a healthy diet of Michael Jackson, Prince, A Tribe Called Quest, Nat King Cole, Nirvana and Weezer, he soon began to channel such influences, and feeding them into his own musical meanderings, that led him toward a sound that combines classic influences of pop, soul and rock and roll.

Ψystein Greni of Bigbang was nominated this week for the 2009 Norwegian Grammy's Spellemannsprisen, in the category of Popular Music Composer for the album Edendale. Edendale, which went platinum in Norway and was just released in North America this month, is notable in that while this is the sixth nomination for the band (prior nominations include three for best album, one for best newcomers and one for best song), it is the first for Greni as a composer. "I am honored and thrilled to be nominated as a songwriter," says Greni."When you are in a band, you sometimes feel people don't pay attention to the songwriting. It's all about the guitar tones or the musicianship. In our case it's all about the live show we put on. To be acknowledged on the strength of our songs, which may be part of the secret to our live success, is a big compliment. It touches the hardworking loner artist in me, as opposed to the less vulnerable stagediving frontman."
