Singled Out: Mehran's The Little Song of Hope
Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today Iranian Flamenco guitarist Mehran tells us about "The Little Song of Hope" from the album "Angels of Persepolis". We now turn it over to Mehran for the story:

This is another song from the album "Angels of Persepolis" that dares to stray away from the strictly Flamenco format. It is a slow ballad that has a heavy bluesy feel. Mehran wanted the rhythm to move faster and be busier and let the guitar be relaxed and loose on top of that. Even though it has that slow rock and blues feel to it the technique used to play the guitar is Flamenco (of course a guitar pick is never used) and that is why it sounds so different. Mehran wanted the beginning to be emotional and somber. Then in comes in the Accordion by Mr. Juliano Milo (A Croatian Gypsy) that basically accentuates the same melody that the guitar plays but in his own feel.

By the time the chorus comes in towards the end a glimmer of hope appears from afar. The ending is a very playful dialogue between Mehran and Juliano. It's an instrumental so it can be interpreted as one wishes, but I would say it is a romantic song with a happy and hopeful ending.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself - right here!

Marcy Playground: Indaba Remixes from Wonderland
Marcy Playground's Indaba Remixes from Wonderland will be released by Capitol/EMI on September 28th.

Indaba Remixes from Wonderland is a new CD and digital collection of remixes from the band's 2009 album Leaving Wonderland...In a Fit of Rage. For the release, the band partnered last fall with the top online destination for music creation, Indaba Music, to offer fans the opportunity to put their own stamp on Marcy Playground's songs by remixing them. The band then selected their favorite mixes, from hundreds submitted, for inclusion on this special release.

Marcy Playground frontman John Wozniak comments: "I wanted to make this record to show people what the online music community is capable of. I believe the talent reflected in these tracks speaks for itself. This community is thriving. It's thriving because musicians feed on inspiration they get from other musicians. Music is not meant to be a solitary endeavor. It's something we like to do with other people. But maybe you live in a remote part of the world, or have problems with mobility because you're physically disabled, or have severe social anxiety, or simply can't find other musicians in your locale who share your musical interests. Indaba side-steps these limitations, giving musicians all over the world a way to get together and create anyway, which is revolutionary. " - more on this story

Magic Gas From Roach Gigz
Roach Gigz has released a new video for "Magic Gas", a song off his recent mixtape Roachy Balboa.

The clip is, appropriately enough, set in front of a gast station in his hometown of San Francisco. Shot by frequent collaborator Aris Jerome on what looks to be a typical California afternoon, prominently featured is a sign emblazoned on the side of the station proclaiming "Smile, you're in SF." While Roach doesn't do a whole lot of smiling in the clip, his flow is so constant that his gold grillz seem to always be on display.

The song depicts the journey of a young Roach growing up dabbling in typical juvenile delinquency and making the transition to the respected 22 year old emcee that we see today. Despite what his tumultuous past may imply, it's clear from Roach's skilled lyricism and dexterity that he is not only gifted, but wise beyond his years. As if his intelligence doesn't show through in his rhymes, he includes the line "I was a crook / But I never got below a 3.0 on my report card," proving just how much of a chameleon the shifty rapper can be. - more on this story
