50 Cent Urges Fans To Get Swabbed
When 50 Cent heard about eleven-year-old Shannon Tavarez, star of Disney's The Lion King before she was diagnosed with leukemia in April, he had to do something to help. The rap superstar registered with DKMS by completing a simple cheek swab last week and filmed a PSA urging his fans to donate.

While 50 Cent was inspired by Shannon's story, his goal is to draw attention to the bigger issue of all leukemia patients nationwide waiting for a bone marrow transplant to give them a second chance at life. "My son is just a couple years older than Shannon and I can't imagine if his life was needlessly cut short when there is someone out there that could save him," said 50 Cent. "A complete stranger is the only person who can give Shannon a fighting chance to live. Register with DKMS online at www.GetSwabbed.org" Watch his PSA here

Shannon was performing on stage when the symptoms first hit. Her lower back and legs suddenly started hurting making it difficult for her to perform or even walk. "When I found out, it hit me really hard, like someone was throwing a ball at me. It was shocking and I thought, why me?" said Shannon. Now, Shannon lives at Schneider Children's Hospital in Long Island where she receives daily chemotherapy treatments. A bone marrow transplant from a stranger is her only chance at survival.

Marshall Chapman Sets New Album Release
Marshall Chapman's life, as author/friend William Gay puts it, "is like five or six lives shoehorned into one. It's like a movie or a good book." Speaking of books, the multifaceted singer-songwriter has written two, and the newest (They Came to Nashville) is being released the same day as Big Lonesome, her sixth release on Tallgirl Records and twelfth overall.

"I wasn't going to make another album, at least not alone," says Chapman. She and close friend Tim Krekel were planning to record a duet album when Krekel was diagnosed with cancer. "Three months later he was gone," Chapman continues. "Dreams were dashed, gigs got cancelled, and life went on. As trite as it may sound, the only thing that comforted me during this period was picking up my guitar. Then new songs started writing themselves. They were coming from an uncharted place so deep and true, I knew what I had to do."

Chapman contacted Michael Utley (producer for Jimmy Buffett and Roy Orbison, and player on albums by Aretha Franklin, Kris Kristofferson, and the Neville Brothers), who brought in Will Kimbrough, "Uncle" Jim Mayer, and Casey Wood. Utley himself plays Hammond B3 organ.

St. Lola In The Fields Album Release Set
Nettwerk has signed alt-pop duo St. Lola In The Fields and will release their debut full-length High Atop The Houses And The Towns on October 5th.

St. Lola In The Fields is comprised of Cindy Brouwer and Jeremy Bose, two veteran songwriters who found themselves writing songs they loved, but weren't designed to be commercially popular.

St. Lola was born in 2007 to give those songs a stage. Brouwer and Bose began working on an EP, Little Breaks/Little Bends, and performing live together when schedules allowed. Both writers appreciated the break St. Lola gave them from all the voices that weighed in on the creation of music industry songs. - more on this story
