We are wrapping up the year by looking at some of the top stories of 2011 with our Top 11 of 11 specials. Today we look at the Top 11 Attacks and Injuries of 11


Motley Crue's Sixx Attacks Fan (No 1 Attacks and Injuries of 11)
Nikki Sixx's encounter with an audience member in August landed the No 1 spot in our countdown of the top Attacks and Injuries story of 11. Here it is: (Rock News Desk) Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx jumped into a festival crowd and wrestled a camera from a member of the audience this past weekend.

Video clips show Sixx stopping the band's performance and going to the edge of the Outlaw Jam stage in Frederick, Maryland, where he holds his hand open, demanding the camera is handed over.

When the fan refuses Sixx leaps over the security barrier and starts wrestling over the device. The rest of Motley Crue look on as security guards try to split up the fight. more on this story

Anthrax Singer Tackled On Stage (No 2 Attacks and Injuries of 11)
A security guards attack on Joey Belladonna in October landed the No 2 spot in our countdown of the top Attacks and Injuries story of 11. Here it is: (Rock News Desk) Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian is furious after singer Joey Belladonna was forced to the ground by a security guard during their show in LA.

The band were 90 minutes into their show when Belladonna went to put his arm round a fan who'd managed to make his way onto the stage. A bouncer climbed onto the stage and threw himself at the fan, taking the singer down with them. Belladonna remained at the bottom of the scrum as more guards joined in.

Bassist Frank Bello was the first member of the band to stop playing as the violent episode continued. He screamed abuse at the overzealous guard as the rest of Anthrax ground to a halt. more including video

Gavin DeGraw Hospitalized After Vicious Attack (No 3 Attacks and Injuries of 11)
The vicious attack against Gavin DeGraw landed the No 3 spot in our countdown of the top Attacks and Injuries story of 11. Here it is: (TMZ) Singer Gavin DeGraw was hospitalized after he was viciously assaulted by multiple attackers late Sunday night in New York City ... TMZ has learned.

A source close to Gavin tells TMZ the singer -- who lives in New York City -- was outnumbered by several people during the attack.

Gavin's rep says he is still under observation at Bellevue Hospital Monday night ... but would not be specific about his injuries. more on this story

Lynyrd Skynyrd's Johnny Van Zant Hospitalized (No 4 Attacks and Injuries of 11)
Johnny Van Zant hospitalization in August landed the No 4 spot in our countdown of the top Attacks and Injuries story of 11. Here it is: (Gibson) Health issues involving Lynyrd Skynyrd's Johnny Van Zant have forced the band to postpone or cancel a number of shows. According to the group's website, the 51-year-old singer was hospitalized over the weekend due to complications from a previous surgery.

Specifically, the site reports that "Johnny Van Zant was admitted to the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN on August 6, with a surgical site infected cellulitis which required hospitalization with IV antibiotic treatment. Van Zant has a severe Staph infection and multiple symptoms related to infection. Johnny Van Zant is to remain out of work and recover until cleared by his primary physician."

Lynyrd Skynyrd plans to resume their regular tour schedule with the Doobie Brothers on Friday, August 19, in Bethel, New York, at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts. more on this story

Slayer's Tom Araya Rushed To The Hospital (No 5 Attacks and Injuries of 11)
Tom Araya's hospitalization in February landed the No 5 spot in our countdown of the top Attacks and Injuries story of 11. Here it is: (Rock News Desk) Slayer frontman Tom Araya was rushed to hospital in Australia on Saturday night after the band's first concert with stand-in guitarist Gary Holt.

The thrash giants decided to leave axeman Jeff Hanneman at home to recover from flesh-eating bug necrotising fasciitis, because they'd already cancelled dozens of shows during 2009 and 2010 due to Araya's back problems.

But they managed just one show of their Australian tour – in Brisbane, on the first night of the touring Soundwave festival – before Araya required medical attention once again. Festival organisers say Araya contracted a severe ear infection, which they hope will clear up in a few days. It's not known whether the band will be able to appear at the three remaining shows of the tour. more on this story

Selena Gomez Hospitalized (No 6 Attacks and Injuries of 11)
Selena Gomez's hospitalization in June landed the No 6 spot in our countdown of the top Attacks and Injuries story of 11. Here it is: (TMZ) Selena Gomez was rushed to the hospital, just after she appeared on "The Tonight Show" -- TMZ has learned.

Sources tell us ... Gomez was feeling horrible during and after the show, complaining of nausea and a severe headache.

She was taken to a Los Angeles area hospital and is still there, undergoing tests. We're told the exact cause of her illness is not yet known. more on this story

Roxy Music's Bryan Ferry Hospitalized (No 7 Attacks and Injuries of 11)
Bryan Ferry's hospitalization in April landed the No 7 spot in our countdown of the top Attacks and Injuries story of 11. Here it is: (Gibson) Roxy Music frontman Bryan Ferry was admitted to a hospital Tuesday night (April 5) after falling "seriously ill," London's Daily Mail has reported.

It was initially feared that Ferry had suffered a heart attack, but a spokesman for the 65-year-old singer said that was not the case.

"Bryan has been feeling rough for some time and he felt even worse today," the spokesman said. "So, he thought it was best for the doctors to look into it. We're all obviously very concerned for him." The representative went on to say that tests were being conducted as "a precautionary measure." more on this story

DevilDriver Star Rushed To Hospital For Seizure (No 8 Attacks and Injuries of 11)
Mike Spreitzer seizure in August landed the No 8 spot in our countdown of the top Attacks and Injuries story of 11. Here it is: (Rock News Desk) DevilDriver guitarist Mike Spreitzer was rushed to hospital yesterday after suffering a seizure, and will miss the band's upcoming South American tour while he recuperates.

It's the second injury to hit the band recently, after current bassist Aaron Patrick was nearly forced to sit out some Canadian festival appearances due to a back problem.

But the band intend to play the tour as a four-piece, with Jeff Kendrick working as their single guitarist. "Mike had a seizure, and woke up in the emergency room. He's doing okay," Dez Fafara said. "He has now been released, but unfortunately he will not be joining the band on the tour, as doctors have ordered him not to." more on this story

Vampires Everywhere Star Hospitalized (No 9 Attacks and Injuries of 11)
Michael Vampire illness in April landed the No 9 spot in our countdown of the top Attacks and Injuries story of 11. Here it is: Vampires Everywhere! have explained that is was health issues that forced them to pull out of some dates with Brokencyde on 'The Death Race Tour'.

Michael Vampire has issued a statement regarding their return to the tour and explains their absence: "Hello Evil Ones, I am writing to update all of you on my current situation regarding tour & my health. I have been in the hospital for over a week. During the Death Race Tour, I noticed my arm was swollen which progressed throughout the tour.

"The day of our Atlanta show, I was feeling horrible and asked the band to drive me to the hospital, which I thought was going to be an in and out experience. It turns out my arm was infected badly & needed immediate surgery. Thus VE! had no choice but to cancel tour dates until I was fully recovered. I am being released from the hospital this week and I am feeling much better! more on this story

Linkin Park To Resume Tour Following Singer's Hospitalization (No 10 Attacks and Injuries of 11)
Chester Bennington recovery from an illness back in February landed the No 10 spot in our countdown of the top Attacks and Injuries story of 11. Here it is: We have some good news for Linkin Park fans. Chester is feeling better and is ready to get back on the road. Here is the official word from the LP camp:

After having to cancel and postpone several shows due to illness of co-lead singer Chester Bennington, Linkin Park will resume its A Thousand Suns world tour at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas Saturday February 19th.

Bennington was hospitalized last week with a viral infection and complications from treatment but has been cleared by his physicians to return to the stage. more on this story

Reel Big Fish Singer Hospitalized (No 11 Attacks and Injuries of 11)
News of Reel Big Fish Singer's hospitalization back in August landed the No spot in our countdown of the top Attacks and Injuries story of 11. Here it is:
Aaron Barrett of Reel Big Fish was hospitalized this week forcing the group to cancel two concerts. They sent over the following word yesterday (Thurs Aug 5th):

Aaron Barrett and Reel Big Fish [did not perform last night] at the Fillmore in Charlotte, NC and will be forced to miss the 311 Pow Wow in Florida [today] Friday August 5th— he is in the hospital resting.

The front man confirmed he will be spending the night in a medical facility after feeling unwell following his performance [Wed] night at the NorVA in Norfolk, VA. more on this story
